I've never really been one to like going outside or be one with nature. Anyone that knows me knows I would rather stay inside and stare blankly at a white wall for hours than be outside. In my mind the word "outside" is connected to negative connotations such as mosquito bites, sunburns, and allergies. Up until last December when my last trip to San Antonio took place did I really change my mind on those views. If you're like my family and I, you know that going to San Antonio means taking trips to the River Walk. Despite always strolling around the River Walk and Downtown San Antonio we never knew a park was near by.
Brackenridge Park is along the San Antonio River and about an eight minute drive from the River Walk. It is a green landscape surrounded by trees that tower over you like streetlights as you walk around. Brackenridge is the perfect place to take a walk or even read a book if you're a local to San Antonio who needs to disconnect from the outside world which can get hectic at times. Although my time there was short lived due to rain pouring down on us, I was still able to sense the park's calming aura and the peace it is able to bring within you.

My older sister and I trying to shield ourselves from the rain

During our short trip we walked around the park on the paved cement path that followed the river and observed the greenery with a grayish dreary sky looking over us. Somehow this rainy weather added some character to the park and intensified its beauty, as well as the wet Earthy smell that spread throughout the air and into my lungs. As my family and I walked around in complete silence with the rain occasionally splashing onto our clothes and making us shiver more than we already were due to the cold, I could feel the unspoken agreement between all of us that this was much needed after an exhausting day of sight-seeing. As the rain grew stronger we decided on heading back to the hotel and the weird thing was that I actually didn't want to leave. Somehow this trip changed my believes and made nature seem even more than tolerable and dare I say it enjoyable. On my next trip I hope to return once again and explore Brackenridge even more, who knows I might even camp at their campsite next time.
Who doesn't like the Riverwalk and Breckenridge Park? Thanks for reminding why this is such a popular destination.
ReplyDeleteI love San Antonio! If I could have found any pictures from the river walk, I probably would have chosen that as my special place as well. It has never been rainy when I was there though. It has always been perfect--not too hot or cold. Another great time in the year to go is also during the Christmas season. If you didn’t already know, they hang lights in the trees and at night they glow and reflect in the river.

ReplyDeleteI love the riverwalk in San Antonio so much. I also went in a rainy day and whenever I got on the boat to go through the river, it started pouring and I had no umbrella. I got so wet it was horrible. To add to that I’m allergic to squeeters and there were so many that day. But, my experience there was amazing.
