If I’m going to be completely honest I honestly don’t care where my food comes from. I mean food is food at the end of the day. However, due to this assignment I was forced to use my detective skills and figure out just where exactly my food comes from.

As you can see from the images above I have many fruit trees in my backyard as well as cacti. The third picture is a photo of my lemon tree when the right season my tree normally
gives about thirty to fourth lemons. My mom being the good sematitarian she is normally gives a lot of them away and the ones we keep we use to zest or make lemonade. This goes to show that my backyard provides me with a lot of food my family consumes such as cacti, lemons , figs and mandarins. Before this assignment, I never payed attention to the plants that grew in my “garden” and interestingly enough my last name if translated in English comes to mean just that garden. How ironic, the girl who could care less about gardening has the word in her name. Anyways, this is just a piece of where I get my produce from.

Mind you I’m sixteen, and so my Mom does grocery shopping around my home, and being the health freak that she is she mostly buys produce that have the following label like the one above With the words “organic” written across them. Her favorite places to buy such products are H-E-B, JoeV’s and Aldi(mostly because of the way they advertise themselves to be a “non-gmo” and fresh company. One thing I find that my professor might like about that store is that they encourage people into taking reusable shopping bags as they’ll charge you for using plastic ones . Although, I’m pretty sure these companies get their produce from big farm corporations instead of local farmers.
Now for the fun part those of you who know me know that I am a chip fanatic. It is literally my favorite "food" in the world. I already know that there are straight up chemicals and toxins that probably can and do cause harm to me in these chils , but if I am being honest I am still going to eat them.Overall, I am pretty sure I wont buy all of my produce from local farmers any time soon or go full on vegetarian or vegan ,but I will try to at least be aware of where what I consume comes from.Sure it feels nice to know my food isn't slowly poisoning me ,but realistically I am still going to eat the same.
When it comes to meat I know darn well that it’s processed I mean sometimes my Mom gets it from La Azteca De Oro or La Vaquita, but if not from there then she gets it from Kroger’s, or Food Town. This meat I already isn’t good for me as the cows are not fed what they are meant to eat and are naturally selected and breeded for the sole purpose of being eaten.

It is interesting how your post evolved from you not really caring where your food comes from, to you understanding that you are closer than you thought. I find it cool that your last name means garden. My parents also do the grocery shopping and they look for the organic foods as well. I like how your sounds personal. Great read.
